Not even the outside starting spot on the gate at Yonkers Raceway could stop Hey Livvy in her bid to find her way to victory lane in Thursday’s $39,000 Fillies & Mares Open Trot.
Jordan Stratton had Hey Livvy rolling from Post 8, and together they were parked out and pressing Grey to the quarter pole in :28.3. Hey Livvy then worked her way to the front and sped the field through middle splits of :57.2 and 1:26. She finished the mile in :29.4 to win by a half-length margin over race favourite No Mas Drama in 1:55.4. Kandy Sweet rounded out the Trifecta ticket in the eight-mare affair.
It was the second straight score for the seven-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover-Nevis Bi who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Jeff Gillis. He co-owns the 26-time winner with Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc, Trevor Henry and Ellen Ott. The lion’s share of the loot pushed her lifetime earnings to $544,243.
