Assigned post six, Slip Into Glide cruised first over from the half to win for the third time in a row in the $8,100 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, March 24.
Flying Isa N swept to the lead past a :27.4 opening quarter while Pasadena Star yielded for the pocket. Slip Into Glide, sitting sixth, pulled off the rail moving to a :57.2 half and brushed to the lead by three-quarters in 1:28. The David Robson trainee kicked to a three-length lead turning for home in progress to a 1:58.1 win. Second-over Lmc Mass Gem gave pursuit in second and Neon Lights, from third over, in third.
Owned by Courtney Robson, Slip Into Glide remains undefeated this season from three starts while also winning his 42nd start from 189 overall, earning $720,143. Pascal Berube drove the 11-year-old Yankee Glide gelding and paid $5.20 to win.
Later in the $8,100 Preferred Handicap Pace co-feature, Stonebridge Beach sat pocket before powering to a 1:56 victory.
Race-favourite Doctor Royal set the tempo through splits of :28, :57.3 and 1:26.1. Saulsbrook Peach made the first move after the leader passing the half and drew within a length of the lead entering the final turn. Doctor Royal faltered through the stretch, giving Saulsbrook Peach the lead before Stonebridge Beach vacated the pocket and kicked to a one-and-three-quarter length victory. Hp Patriote closed for third.
Winning his second race from five starts this season and his 21st from 104 overall, Stonebridge Beach has earned $437,265. Stephane Pouliot trains the six-year-old Mach Three gelding for owners 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. and Meadowgem Farm Inc. He paid $13.10 to win.
