Hurried Romance and Ynothos opened Fraser Downs' Friday night card winning a pair of $7,500 eliminations for the Marian Young Memorial, a stakes event for three-year-old B.C.-bred fillies that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime.
Trained and driven by Rod Therres, 3-2 favourite Hurried Romance ($5.10) retook the lead from the quick-leaving Custard Lite (Keith Clark) as the first field of fillies moved past the quarter pole and then fought back down the stretch after Marilyn (Kevin Anderson) gained a short lead with a big backstretch brush. Hurried Romance prevailed by one and a quarter lengths in a career-best mile timed in 1:57 flat. Marilyn edged out Custard Lite for second-place in a photo finish. Therres also co-owns the Dragon Again-Shes Just Rockin filly, a three-time winner from 11 starts, with Carol Ann Leeson and Blair Miller.
After an early tussle for the lead, the Rick Lancaster-trained Ynothos ($8) and Travis Bowman took over as Chasten The Fever (Ian McCardle) faltered on the front and caused interference to her foes. Ynothos was later confronted by the resurgent Chasten The Fever approaching the final turn where that filly broke stride again and left her to cruise home a four and a half length winner in 2:00.2. Chasten The Fever still managed to cross the wire in second-place, but was relegated to fifth (last) for the interference she had caused. Sunset Sunday (Dennis Johnston) and Sea First (Mark Abbott) inherited second and third, respectively. Ray Soh owns Ynothos, a daughter of Camystic and As Hot As Promised that notched her second win from 11 races.
