Winning from Post 10 is never an easy feat at Woodbine Racetrack, especially if you’re a trotter.
Going into Thursday’s card at the Rexdale, Ont. oval only two winners overcame that dreaded post and went on to post winning efforts. But at the end of the Thursday card that number jumped from two to three.
St James Gate, who was forced to deal with Post 10 in Thursday’s sixth race, never saw the pylons until past the mid-way point. He worked his way to the top in the $17,000 conditioned event, but was later overtaken by Gentleman Jim. That foe ripped past three quarter pole in 1:27.4, but he couldn’t fend off St James Gate. The eventual winner used a :28.3 closing panel to win by a half-length margin over Gentleman Jim in 1:56.3. Bluebird D Train took home third money.
Per Henriksen trains the four-year-old son of Majestic Son-Fighting Irish for Brian Kleinburg, Adv Racing Stable LLC and Seth Rosenberg Racing LLC. It was the second win of the season from four attempts for the five-time winner. The lightly raced campaigner is just shy of $27,000 in career earnings.
