Fantasypan and driver Jack Flanigen won the $11,000 Open Pace in a season’s best 1:55.4 over a sloppy track at Buffalo Raceway Saturday night (March 23).
The win was the second this year for Fantasypan, a six-year-old gelding out of No Pan Intended, who is trained by James Dunn and owned by Myra Dunn of Singer Island, Florida.
Fantasypan ($14.40), dismissed by the bettors at 6-1, took the lead from post two and set all the fractions in the race, :29, :57.3, and 1:27 to the three-quarter pole. A :28.4 last quarter-mile put the winner three-quarters of a length in front of second-place finisher Naked News (Jim McNeight) at the wire. Goodnite Goodluck (Kevin Cummings) came in third.
The $5,500 winner's share of the purse put Fantasypan’s seasonal earnings at $15,765 and lifetime bankroll at $177,871.
Racing will resume on Wednesday, March 27 with first post scheduled for 5 p.m. eastern time. The Pick 7 will have $7,898 carryover for Wednesday as no one has hit the wager since the beginning of the meet. It starts in race six.
