According to a report on delawareonline.com, developers behind the Del Point standardbred racing track proposed for Delaware have announced a racino operation for the project.
The project was originally planned to have a track, hotel, retail and resort complex. The article states that the project is being pitched as a way to help local money from going out of state, give the local construction industry a shot in the arm and bring more money into the Delaware government.
The delawareonline.com report quotes developer Preston Shell as saying that it will be tough to get a gaming licence approved, as opposition will likely come from the existing area racinos (Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway).
"They have a legalized oligopoly," the article quoted Shell as saying. "We knew this was going to be a tough battle."
