A quartet of $20,000 divisions of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings went postward at Dover Downs
on Monday, with Rays Big Bubba producing the quickest clocking of the divisional winners.
Ross Wolfenden guided Rays Big Bubba to a 1:52.2 score for the partnership of Rae Sullivan, Jay Leonard and Richards Stables. The son of Badlands Hanover front-stepped his way to the winning effort over Prince Of Badlands and Get Jazzed. It was a successful 2009 debut for the Scott Gregoire trainee, who won for the seventh time in 10 career assignments.
PT Stable's Al Ibad Spider sat a pocket trip until the head of the lane for driver Eric Goodell, who guided the son of Badlands Hanover to an impressive 1:53.1 score over race favourite Zee Barber and Sgt Charlie. It was a personal best for the Michael Hall trainee, who owns a 4-5-4 record and close to $50,000 in earnings from just 18 lifetime starts.
The two remaining DSBF divisions went to sons of Three Olives.
Barbara Gannon's Everlasting Pride notched a decisive 1:54.3 win in his split with Eddie Davis, Jr. at the controls. He defeated race favourite Mr Wiggles and Badlands Pete to remain perfect in his first four starts of the season. Edwin Gannon conditions the homebred, who has picked up seven wins in his first eight starts while banking $34,500 along the way.
Joe Eisenhower's Three Ten pulled driver Ron Pierce to a 1:55.4 victory in the other division. Royal Camelot was second best and Bad Boy Named Sue rounded out the top three. The Clifton Green pupil, who didn’t race as a rookie, has put together a 2-2-2 record in his first 10 starts while potting more than $22,000.
The second leg of the DSBF for pacing colts and geldings will go next Monday at Dover Downs.
