Safe Conduct Takes New Holland Trotting Series

Safe Conduct added to his already lengthy resume with a win in the $30,000 New Holland Trotting Series on Monday (March 23) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Bob McClure lined up behind the gate in post five with the Camilla Christoforou student. As the wings drew away, McClure hit the gas and aimed for the top. Mr Bluebird (Travis Cullen) was the first to click the quarter panel timer in :27.2 with Safe Conduct on his heels in second. Safe Conduct swiftly swooped ahead to take command through the :57.2 half and continued through the three quarters in 1:26.3. Without looking back, Safe Conduct trotted home to a 1-3/4 length score in 1:54.2. R Peaky Blinders (Tyler Borth) grabbed second and Hasty Bid (James MacDonald) was third.

Irvann Holdings Inc and Charalambos Christoforou co-own the seven-year-old gelded son of Archangel and the Muscle Hill mare Safekeeping. Safe Conduct added to his now $612,260 bankroll with $86,800 of that earned this year to date. The win was his second straight in the series, fourth on the year in nine starts and 15th career win in 64 lifetime starts. He paid $2.90 to win.

A pair of $8,500 Pop Up Series Pace classes went to the gate on Monday with each class dedicated to fillies and mares in for a tag of $7,500 as the second leg of the series.

My Only Sunshine ($3) won the first split by a half length in 1:57.4. Travis Cullen was in the bike for trainer/owner Grace Marshman. In the second split, Acefortyfour Daisy ($11.30) was piloted to a half length score by Tyler Borth for trainer Kevin Enman, who co-owns the mare with Wendy Enman.
