Buttermilk Hanover Brushes To Victory

Parked from the start, Buttermilk Hanover gradually advanced uncovered towards the lead before overtaking pacesetter Southwind Ion into the final turn in progress to a 1:55 victory in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, March 23.

Southwind Ion swept to the lead heading to a :27.2 opening quarter while Buttermilk Hanover, sent the favourite from post 7, sat wide of trailer Thrillonthebeach. Buttermilk Hanover quickly ranged towards the lead and sat within two lengths of the leader past a :56.2 half.

Village Jamie edged off the rail from fourth to grab cover into the backstretch while Thrillonthebeach raced third over to three-quarters. Buttermilk Hanover edged to the top past a 1:25 third quarter and opened her lead rounding into the stretch, finishing two-and-quarter lengths better than Thrillonthebeach taking second and Village Jamie finishing third.

A six-year-old mare by Badlands Hanover, Buttermilk Hanover won her 17th race from 93 starts, earning $246,000. Melissa Lamoureux trains the $4.20 winner for owners 113564 Canada Ltd. and Todd Beelby. Robert Shepherd sat in the bike.
