Stakes season is upon us and the top three-year-olds in the industry are starting to ratchet up their games. One of those sophomores expected to make a splash in 2015, O'Brien Award finalist Go Daddy Go, was impressive enough as a freshman that he's added a new owner.
Adam Bowden of Diamond Creek Farms recently bought into the chestnut colt that banked just under $400,000 in purses last season. Bowden told Trot Insider that the deal to obtain a piece of the colt -- previously owned by breeders Bob McIntosh and Dave Boyle -- took some negotiating but he's thrilled to be part of the group.
"I love Ponder, I think McIntosh is top notch and knows how to campaign a horse of this caliber and he seemed like a tough knocking horse that was as good as anybody else last year," said Bowden. "I think this group of three-year-olds lacks a superstar (or did last year) and we thought we'd take a shot and see what happens.
"Go Daddy Go has as good a shot as anybody to step up and be great. He has the right trainer and right driver. We are just happy to be along for the ride."
In speaking of Bowden buying a piece of the colt, McIntosh told the Guelph Mercury, "I'm happy to have that happen. He's an up-and-comer and a young guy that is a mover and shaker in the business now.”
Go Daddy Go hit the board in nine of 14 starts last year, good for almost $400,000 in earnings. The son of Ponder’s biggest win of the season came in the Battle of Waterloo and he also posted a solid runner up performance in the Governors Cup. He is one of 72 horses whose connections made the February 15 stakes payment to the North America Cup.
