Round two of the Four Leaf Clover Series was contested at the Meadowlands on Saturday evening, with $25,000 divisions going to Canadian-owned Alexie Mattosie and Lisagain

.

Alexie Mattosie, who races for partners Don Lindsey, Paul Kleinpaste, Will Alempijevic and Dennis Mavrin, earned a new speed badge of 1:49.1 thanks a flawless performance in the opening split. George Brennan plugged the Anthony Montini-trained four-year-old son of No Pan Intended into the pocket while Beeeyouuuuuu sliced out fractions of :26.3 and :53.4.

Brennan and Alexie Mattosie launched a final turn attack on Beeeyouuuuuu, and they ended up matching strides to the three-quarter pole in 1:21.4 before Alexie Mattosie edged away in the closing strides. He used a :27-second final quarter to win by a head over Beeeyouuuuuu and Golden Receiver, who finished in a dead-heat for the runner-up award.

The 1:49.1 victory was a new lifetime mark for Alexie Mattosie, who is now 2-for-9 this season and a 13-time winner to date. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his career bankroll to $157,341.

Lisagain and driver George Brennan showed no mercy to the foes they faced in the second division. Brennan hustled the Erv Miller-trained four-year-old son of Dragon Again-Lisheen through fractions of :28, :56.2 and 1:23.4 before roaring home in :26.1 en route to posting an eye-catching clocking of 1:50. It was more than four lengths back to runner-up Mysticism, and more than seven lengths to third-place finisher Livefreeordiehard.

Pacinello, who was sent off as the even-money favourite, made a break going into the first turn and wound up finishing last.

John Carver of Moline, IL and Mystical Marker Farms LLC of Dyer, IN share ownership on the eight-time winner, who has put together a 4-1-2 record in his first seven starts of the season. The victory also boosted his lifetime earnings to $157,341.

The $132,000 (est.) final of the Four Leaf Clover Series is scheduled for Saturday, March 27.
