Soaring Now soared in the $32,000 Preferred 2 Handicap Pace on Saturday (March 2) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, scoring the victory by a neck in 1:50.4.
James MacDonald and the Meg Crone trainee got away fifth from post 10, maintaining their pylon position through the opening panel in :25.4 and half in :55.1. Continuing along the rail, Soaring Now sat fourth through the three-quarters in 1:24.1 and moved into third going into the final turn. Down the stretch, Soaring Now sprinted home. With a final panel clocked in :26, Soaring Now pushed just enough to win by a neck over the pocket-sitting Poseidon Seelster (Tyler Moore). Saulsbrook Victor (Brett MacDonald) completed the triactor.
Soaring Now (JK Endofanera-Sunflower), who is owned by Kenneth Jacobs and Enviro Stables Ltd., earned his first win of the year from four attempts and his 17th career victory. From 41 starts, the five-year-old horse has made $523,725 in lifetime earnings. He returned $3.20 to win.
Richard Moreau trained four winners on Saturday evening's 10-race program at Mohawk: Brett MacDonald steered Head Honcho ($11.50) to a 1:52.4 victory by a nose; Doug McNair piloted Stormalong ($5.70) to a 1-3/4-length triumph in 1:50.2; James MacDonald and Seriously Hanover ($4.50) won by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:50.2; and Reactor Now A ($3.80) capped off the quartet of victories with a win in 1:51.3 by a half length with McNair in tow.
