Michelangelo Wins Again At Rideau

Michelangelo overcame an outside post eight start with his late-rallying antics to capture the Winners Over $25,000 Lifetime/Not Listed trotting feature on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Michelangelo circled up three-wide from third over during the final quarter of the mile and edged past his rivals in deep stretch to nab his third straight victory in 1:58 flat. Favourite Uncle Freddie journeyed first over and got by pacesetter Imminent Response for the runner-up honours just a quarter-length behind the winner.

Chelsea Knapp's six-year-old Angus Hall gelding was driven to victory by Rheo Filion.

A winner in the same class in his last start back on Jan. 25, Michelangelo was sent off as the 9-2 third choice in the field of eight and paid $11.40 to win.

The lion's share of the $6,500 purse lifted Michelangelo's bankroll to $143,896. He now has 30 career wins in 85 starts.

Trainer Gerard Demers teamed up with driver Gord Brown for a triple on the 14-race card.
