Driver Louis-Philippe Roy and trainer Yves Tessier were the stars of the Sunday harness racing card at Rideau Carleton Raceway, sweeping the co-featured Winners Over events during a multiple-win night.
Roy and Tessier set the tone for the evening with a win right out of the gate. They combined for a victory in the $5,650 opener for claiming-conditioned trotters with Uncle Freddie ($4.40), who won for the first time this year in 1:58.4, before sweeping the co-featured top classes.
In the $6,500 Winners Over Handicap Trot, Canada's 2016 Future Star Award winner worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard the Tessier-trained mare Torches Angel ($15.30) and overtook tempo-setter Heres The Magic in the stretch for the one-length victory in 1:57.2.
They also paired up to win the $6,650 Winners Over Handicap for pacers with Bazinga Brad ($5.90), who closed between horses down the lane to score a neck victory over late leader Nobettorplacetobe in 1:54.4.
Recent Rideau newcomer Ufdragons Rocket ($3.40) was later a wide-open winner in 1:52.1 in a $5,950 claiming-conditioned pace, also for Roy and Tessier.
The Morins were the owners behind the winning quartet: Louison Morin owns Uncle Freddie (who was claimed in tonight's race) and Bazinga Brad while Torches Angel and Ufdragons Rocket belong to Francois Morin.
Roy ended the night with a grand total of five driving wins, also finding success with Red Mist ($8.60) for the Sebastien Giroux stable.
