With the Canadian harness racing industry facing a potential tariff situation in two weeks time, the connections of one stallion have taken the reins to provide incentive for the country's broodmare owners thinking about keeping their business north of the 49th parallel.
In an effort to address tariffs and currency fluctuations, Schooner II Stables, in partnership with Winbak Farm, has announced changes to the 2025 service fees for Beach Glass.
The 2025 service fee for Beach Glass, previously announced at $7,500 USD, is now $7,500 CAD.
In addition, for those broodmare owners that bred to Beach Glass in 2024 and are breeding the same mare or numbers of mares again this year, the 2025 stud fee will drop to $6,500 CAD.
"Given the circumstances of the tariffs and the climate, it was definitely the right thing to do for the breeders wanting to breed to Beach Glass," Brent MacGrath of Schooner II Stable told Trot Insider. "They're caught in the middle of this and we wanted to step up and show them that we're in this thing for the long haul and we're putting our money where our mouth is."
