Primary Purpose rallied home from off the pace to keep his seasonal record perfect in the featured $12,500 Open Pace and complete a training triple on the 12-race Sunday card for horseman Rod Therres

With Therres in the sulky, defending Open champion Primary Purpose recovered from an early miscue in the 11th race and settled into fifth place while longshot Killean Cut Kid (John Abbott) headed to the front and carved out fractions of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:23. Stop Calling (John Hudon) pulled the pocket around the final turn, but Primary Purpose came charging home on the far outside to score in 1:52.2. Killean Cut Kid finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in second while Stop Calling rounded out the top three finishers.
Primary Purpose paid $4.20 to win for the 24th time in his career. The six-year-old Cammibest-Sing Mitzi For Me gelding, owned by Therres and Vancouver's Veikko Pajunen, now boasts $482,929 in lifetime earnings.
Therres also won the opener with Muriel Fornwald Memorial Stake runner-up Theregoesmyheart ($3), which he co-owns with Langley's James Vinnell, as well as the fifth race with six-year-old mare Pretty Promised ($24.80), who made is five wins in a row.
With 14 wins from 29 starts so far this year, Therres now boasts a hot training average of 0.605.
