A disqualification in the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap on Thursday night (March 16) at Fraser Downs put Moosette in the winner’s circle and continued a strong night for driver Brandon Campbell, who won five races in a row, and trainer Jim Marino, who won three.

Stash The Cookies darted to the lead and quickly slowed proceedings to a :27.4 first quarter with the field hitting the breaks to the half. Past the half in :58.1, Stash The Cookies accelerated up the backstretch as odds-on favourite Moosette powered first over. Three-quarters clicked in 1:25.2 and Stash The Cookie held strong to the finish, keeping Moosette at bay by a head in 1:54.1. However, because of interference around the first turn, the judges disqualified Stash The Cookies from first to seventh. Moosette inherited the win with Hang On Sloopy taking second and Century Mach third.

Owned and bred by Shale Stables, Moosette, a six-year-old mare by Hes Watching, won her 25th race from 70 starts and has now earned $183,078. She paid $3.40 to win.

Moosette’s victory was the second on the card for trainer Jim Marino and the third in a natural five-bagger for Brandon Campbell. Campbell and Marino paired to win with Western Summit (1:54.1 winning mile; $2.80 to win) and Aces In Play (1:59.4; $2.90) while Campbell also won with Ontheroadtotexas (1:54.4; $2.90) and Jeanielicious (1:55.1; $4.40).
