Trainer/driver Serge Masse used aggressive tactics with Kismyjet in Friday’s $20,000 Clarence Sugar Gagnon Memorial at Fraser Downs, and the sophomore answered the bell by winning in a career-best clocking of 1:55.2
.
Kismyjet released Red Star Tyson to the lead at the quarter-pole in :26.2 before coming right back around that foe to reclaim the position of command. Once in charge of the speed, Kismyjet ripped through middle panels of :55.2 and 1:24.2 while feeling first-over pressure from favourite, Sterling Cooper.
Masse opened up on the competition as the field moved into the lane, and a :31-second final quarter was more than enough for the three-year-old son of Jeremes Jet-Kismet Killean to win by 2-1/2 lengths. G G Jaw Breaker was the best of the rest, with third prize earned by Red Star Tyson.
Masse shares ownership on the gelding with James Vinnell of Langley, BC, and together they’ve watched the talented youngster put together a 3-for-3 record this season on the heels of last year’s 3-2-2 record from eight trips postward. The $10,000 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $30,236.
The undercard also featured a $12,500 Fillies & Mares Open, a tilt that belonged to Legal Suspensory and trainer/driver Dave Hudon. The hard-knocking mare battled to the opening post in :27.4 with Red Star Hannah before releasing that foe to the lead and then coming right back around for the retake attempt.
Legal Suspensory cleared without a tussle and proceeded to supply middle splits of :56.4 and 1:25.2 while feeling first-over heat from race favourite Jennas Pass. A :29-second final frame was more than enough for Legal Suspensory to hold off Itza Free For All and Jennas Pass.
Bred and owned by Shale Stables of Merritt, BC, the six-year-old daughter of Pulledsuspensory-Als Jenna picked up the long overdue victory after going 0-for-3 to start the season and 0-for-18 last year. The 13-time winner has potted more than $166,000 in her racing career.
