With trainer Tim Driver in the bike, Home Stretch rallied from off the pace to take Wednesday’s $9,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at Windsor Raceway over the favoured
Careless Love and pacesetter Benns Thunder.
Home Stretch and Driver left from Post 5 in the six-horse field and tucked into third place behind Twin B Excalibur (Danny Johnson) and Benns Thunder (Brad Kramer). Benns Thunder set the tempo with fractions of :27.2, :55.3 and 1:25 while the trailers, Buzz Of The Day (Ron Henderson) and Bacio Hanover (Alfred Carroll), made a pair of costly breaks.
Heading to the third quarter mark, Driver tipped Home Stretch off the rail and the six-year-old son of Valley Victory-Dreamlands Crown reached the leader at the top of the lane. The 5-1 fourth choice forged ahead and tripped the teletimer in 1:56.1 while Careless Love (Keith Crawford) closed from fourth to place over Benns Thunder.
Now a winner of two races in six outings this year, Home Stretch has stashed sway $17,305 in purses. The 27-time career winner has banked over $182,000 for owner June Durussel of Millington, MI.
