Morairtime humbled her male rivals with a 1:52.4 score in Tuesday’s (March 16) $21,000 Winners Over Select/Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs.
Morairtime and Northern Express left alertly for early position from their outside posts, with Northern Express clearing Morairtime through a :27.2 quarter before yielding to 6-5 favourite Jack Vernon before the half in :55.2.
Up the backstretch, Jack Parker Jr. moved Morairtime off the pylons from third, and the pair sprinted to a clear lead at three-quarters in 1:23.2. Morairtime cleared easily entering the final turn, but had company in the form of Northern Express turning for home.
The five-year-old Airzoom Lindy mare was up to the challenge, winning by three-quarters of a length for owner James Moore III and trainer Carol Jamieson-Parker. Northern Express was a game second; Whimsical Chapter finished third.
Racing at Dover Downs resumes on Wednesday (March 17). First-race post time is 4:30 p.m. (EDT).
