Tahiti Seelster put forth a career-best performance to crush the competition in this week's $12,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Friday night (March 16).
Sent postward as the even-money favourite, Tahiti Seelster retook the lead from early leaver Jet To The Beach just past the :27 quarter mark and never looked back. She carved out middle splits of :55.2 and 1:23.3 en route to a 1:53 victory, winning by two and a quarter lengths and just three-fifths of a second off the track record for aged pacing mares.
G Ts Jamie, a two-time Open winner this year for trainer Jim Marino, was the best of the rest while her stablemate Cays Blessing edged out Mystical Wonder back in third.
David Hudon drove Tahiti Seelster for owners Richard Craig and Nelson Craig, who also trains the five-year-old Up The Credit-Titania Seelster mare. Tahiti Seelster's 13th career win pushed her earnings over the $100,000 plateau and lowered her lifetime mark by one full second. She has hit the board in all six of her 2018 starts, now boasting a 2-2-2 seasonal record.
