According to a report by the Rocky View Weekly, the MD of Rocky View has approved a plan that would

see the erection of a 157-acre business park beside the massive mall complex in east Balzac.

The massive centres are in the same area as the racetrack which is expected in the area.

The article states that Ivanhoe Cambridge, developer of the CrossIron regional shopping centre in east Balzac, plans to build the CrossIron Common business park between the existing regional shopping centre and Hwy. 566. The development will include a mix of office, retail and service buildings, covering one million square feet and a 5,000-stall parking lot.

The report states that water is an issue, though. Some are wondering why the collection of rainwater is not being utilized in the plan as a way to irrigate the area.

This month's issue of the Western Investor also profiles expansion in the area, focusing in on the shopping centre, which will be the second-largest in Canada behind Edmonton's West Edmonton Mall.

The shopping centre is to include 200 specialty stores, including Holt Renfrew, Last Call, Pro Hockey Life, Bed Bath & Beyond, a Lacoste outlet and the largest Bass Pro Shop in Canada.

According to the Western Investor, builder Ivanhoe Cambridge is expecting to open this August, and 90 per cent of CrossIron's concrete structure is already complete.

The report also states that the economic slowdown which has halted many North American projects -- including the Balzac track -- has not had an effect on the CrossIron mall.
