On Wednesday night (March 15) at The Raceway at Western Fair District, Beach Moment delivered as the odds-on choice in the featured $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace and veteran Ideal Jet nabbed his 50th victory.
In the feature, driver Travis Henry hustled Beach Moment to the point from post five and led through fractions of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.4 all while her rivals attempted to make gains. The Blake MacIntosh pupil did tire coming off the turn but held strongly to the finish to withstand a late charge by Saulsbrook Jessie and win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.3. Escape The House closed for third and Born A Dragon finished fourth.
MacIntosh co-owns Beach Moment with Hutt Racing Stable. The five-year-old Control The Moment mare won for the 15th time in her career while pushing her bankroll to $167,750. She paid $3.70 to win.
The 12-year-old Jeremes Jet gelding and stubborn speedster Ideal Jet toured the London oval through his preferred front-stepping route to make his 50th return to the winner’s circle. The Craig Barss trainee led pillar to post in a $7,000 conditioned pace and clocked a clip of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.1.
Nick Boyd steered the gelding to victory for owners Nurko Sokolovic and Craig Barss. The gelding’s 50th victory came in his 302nd start and deposited into an account now worth $657,281. He paid $3.90 to win.
