Three-year-old pacing fillies Terrormissu and Rollin Deep shared the spotlight on Friday night at Fraser Downs with wins in the $7,500 Penny Bath Memorial eliminations.
Last week's Muriel Fornwald Memorial Stake winner One Badland Nite carved out the fractions of :28.4, :59.4 and 1:29.1 in the first elimination with Run And Tell at her throat entering the stretch, but pocket-sitter Terrormissu ($7.70) shot up the passing lane to prevail in a career-best 1:58.2 by three-quarters of a length. Run And Tell, who had advanced first over from last in the compact field of five, took the runner-up honours over One Badland Nite.
Bill Davis trains and drives the Western Terror-Michelles Fury filly, who was a runner-up in the Fornwald Memorial by half a length, for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. The win was her first in three starts this year.
Favourite Rollin Deep ($2.20) went wire-to-wire to win the second elimination in 1:57.2. She was rated through panels of :29.1, 1:00 and 1:28.4 before using a :28.3 final frame to seal the deal. Rollin Deep won by one and three-quarter lengths with Killemwithmyawsome improving one position to take second. Tap Away was third off a two-hole trip.
Trainer/driver Serge Masse shares ownership of the Ponder-Rapid Jenna filly with Alberta partner Lucy Raymond. The win was her second (consecutive) from four seasonal starts.
Closing from off-the-pace, favourite Prairie Illusion ($4.20) -- on the far outside -- defeated longshot Keep The Dream -- who closed up the passing lane -- in a final quarter sprint in this week's $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace. The final margin was half a length and the winning time 1:54.4. Jim Marino drove the five-year-old Mach Three-Twin B Magical mare for owner/trainer William Young of Langley, B.C. Prairie Illusion is now a three-time Mares Open winner this year.
