On Wednesday, March 10 at Sweden's Solvalla Racetrack, horseman Jim Frick was injured when the mare he was driving stumbled near the end of her mile. Frick was ejected from the race bike and hit the track head first

.

An article on maltastar.com explains that Frick, a winner of over 5,000 career races, was left unconscious, yet breathing on his own as a result of the accident. The horseman was reportedly rushed to the Karolinska Hospital in Solna where he was in a coma.

The report goes on to state that Frick did not receive injuries to his body, generally, but that he was suffering from slight bleeding in his brain. The article states that on Thursday, March 11, doctors were going to attempt to bring him out of his coma, yet then decided against such action until a later date if need be.

"We have today received clearance from the doctors at Karolinska hospital that the situation with Jim is still serious but stable," the family said through a translator on Saturday, March 13. "In the current situation, doctors can not give any information about how long it takes before Jim wakes. We can only wait and be patient and we are calm in that he is in the best hands imaginable."

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Jim Frick a speedy and complete recovery.
