Fearless Man got most of the early calls in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred for trotters at Woodbine Racetrack, but it was Lindys Tru Grit who got the last laugh.

Lindys Tru Grit was in no hurry in the early stages of the contest, but that wasn’t the case for the speedy Fearless Man. He fired to the lead and hung up a first quarter in :25.4 before stealing away with softer middle splits of :55.3 and 1:24.4. Paul MacDonell had Lindys Tru Grit sitting sixth while third over at the three-quarter pole, but when he cut the gelding loose he used a :28-second closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over Hldontghttoyurdrms in 1:53.4. Fearless Man faded late to finish third.

Ben Wallace trains the six-year-old son of Cantab Hall-True Diva for owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. He shelled out $125,000 for the trotter, who was the sale topper at the January Select Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands. The win improved his record to 2-1-0 from five starts this season. The 12-time winner has stashed away more than $500,000 to date.
