Veteran Mare Lowers Mark In Fraser Open

Ten-year-old Pureform Goodtogo turned in a career-best performance on Friday night at Fraser Downs as she fought off Prairie Illusion in the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace to keep her winning streak intact.

Pureform Goodtogo took control of the six-horse field from post five and led the distaffers through fractions of :27.1, :57.1 and 1:25. Meanwhile, Prairie Illusion advanced from fourth after that second quarter breather and moved up alongside the leader within striking distance turning for home. Prairie Illusion offered up a serious challenge down the stretch, but Pureform Goodtogo maintained the slight edge to succeed in 1:53.3, lowering her lifetime mark that she had set two seasons ago by two-fifths of a second. Drawing Dead finished nearly two lengths behind in third off a pocket trip.

Owned by trainer/driver Bill Davis and Jeff Elchuk, the Valet Victory mare now has six wins in seven seasonal starts and is only a head shy of a perfect record this year.

Pureform Goodtogo was the 6-5 favourite and paid $4.40 to win.
