Fancyfreeshark overtook front-pacing Europan Union in the final step to post a 1:50.4 victory in the $30,000 Delaware Special Handicap Pace on Thursday at Dover Downs.
Jon Roberts drove Fancyfreeshark, owned and trained by Bobby Glassmeyer, to his second victory of the 2013 campaign.
After leaving fast, the six-year-old Four Starzzz Shark-Fancy Art horse waited until the stretch before going into high gear and powering home to reach the finish line first. The win pushed his career earnings over the $300,000 mark.
Europan Union and Jim Morand were a strong second. Catchmecullen A, with Allan Davis, was in the photo finishing third. Jeremys Successor was scratched.
Ron Pierce took Arty Foster’s Eagle All right to the front on the way to a 1:50.3 triumph in the $23,000 Winners Over Handicap. Summer Camp (Jon Roberts) and Cam B Zipper (Eric Carlton) could not be separated by the photo-finish camera resulting in a tie for second-place honours. Eagle All, an altered son of Allamerican Ingot-Its Gina, won for the third time this year.
