Calgary Seelster survived being parked to the quarter pole in :26.2 en route to capturing Monday’s $60,000 final of the Apaches Fame Stakes

at Woodbine Racetrack, and in doing so he extended his winning streak to four-in-a-row.

With regular pilot Phil Hudon at the helm, Calgary Seelster was stretched out by The Platinum Guy before being released to the top as they did battle to that first post in :26.2, but it wasn’t enough to sidetrack the three-year-old son of Modern Art-Cmon Mama Cass. He backed down the pace once he reached the lead, and that permitted him to cruise to the mid-way point in :55.4.

The tempo quickened around the final turn, and as a result Calgary Seelster had the field lined up behind him at the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1. He turned on the afterburners over the final quarter and used a :28.3 final frame to post the 1:52.2 decision. The Platinum Guy was second best and Live And Learn rallied to finish third.

It was a career-best performance for Calgary Seelster, who is owned and trained by Murray Preszcator of London, ON. The victory improved the colt’s record to 4-1-0 in six starts. Despite being unraced as a rookie the pacer has stashed away $62,780 to date.
