Favourite Sly Eleanor N cruised to victory Friday night (March 13) in this week's top fillies and mares pacing class at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sent postward as the 4-5 bettors' choice in the $26,000 ninth race conditioned pace, Sly Eleanor N and driver Jody Jamieson set out for the lead from post six, clearing Double A Mint (Louis-Philippe Roy) through a :29 first quarter and then opening up two lengths while leading the single-file field through a half in :58.
Stepping up off two consecutive wins, the Richard Moreau-trained millionairess Sandbetweenurtoes (Doug McNair) swept up from fifth during the third quarter and threatened as they passed the 1:26 marker, but Sly Eleanor N kicked away in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:53.2.
Sly Eleanor N, who was a close second to Canada's 2020 top money-earner So Much More (entered in tomorrow's Preferred) during last Saturday's Fillies & Mares Preferred, returned $3.90 to win. Double A Mint, the 5-2 second choice, rallied outside to best her 4-1 stablemate Sandbetweenurtoes for second money.
The victorious seven-year-old McArdle mare has put together a seasonal summary reading 4-3-1 from nine starts so far while earning $68,900 for trainer Gary Lance, who co-owns with Bc Reichheld Stables and Brian Samis.
