Despite leaving from Post 7, G Momma rolled to her second straight victory in Wednesday’s Mary Wohlmuth Memorial Trot, stamping herself as the horse to beat in the series for three and four-year-old fillies and mares.
Mystical Melody and Baby K, each piloted by Aaron Merriman, took the other $15,000, second-leg splits Wednesday at The Meadows.
G Momma roared to the front for Mike Wilder and widened her lead on the sloppy surface, scoring in 2:00.1. Donatos Peach was 4-1/4 lengths back in second, with Treasure Coins third. Paul Corey trains G Momma, a four-year-old daughter of SJs Caviar-Strike Ten, for Howard Kaufman, Joshua Kaufman and William Eltzroth.
A seven-race maiden who broke stride in her series debut, Mystical Melody seemed an unlikely candidate for victory and was dismissed at 10-1. But she followed cover beautifully and moved confidently through the stretch to score in 2:02.1, a length better than Hierarchy. Early leader Fashion Glide finished third.
Clay Faurot, Jr. conditions Mystical Melody, a four-year-old daughter of Muscle Mass-Winning Tribute, for Chelsey Wibert.
Brett Miller and Wilder each drove four winners on the 15-race card while Merriman fashioned a triple.
