Canada's newest track, West Meadows Raceway in Regina, Sask., is now ready for racing with the province's horsepeople eagerly anticipating
opening day.
"It's been a busy year preparing for racing at West Meadows Raceway but we are now ready," says President Jane Grainger. ""The barn is now complete and currently half full, with enclosed Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Test Area."
While the track has been down for quite some time, recent touches have the surface virtually race ready
"The track was in a year ago but now has all-weather surfacing and new pylons installed," continued Grainger. "A race paddock, fencing, picnic tables and bleacher seating are all in place and final inspection was recently completed by SLGA. All that is left is final approval of race days and they told us that should be finalized within the coming weeks."
West Meadows Raceway officials have received emails, letters and phone calls from fans and sponsors anxiously awaiting the announcement.
"Harness racing is once again growing in this province and we're confident that the new track in Regina (second largest population base) will significantly contribute to that overall growth," proclaimed Grainger. "Industry supporters have invested a lot of time, money and effort into this new facility which has really come together and it will be great to see it packed with race fans on opening day!"
