Montreal Teague worked out a beauty of a trip for Goldberg in Thursday’s $20,000 Open Handicap for pacers at Dover Downs, and the Clyde Francis trainee rewarded his crew with an upset score to the tune of 16-1.
Goldberg landed in the two-hole behind Bo Mach who carved out fractions of :27, :56.1 and 1:23. JJ Flynn put first-over pressure on the leader on the way to the three-quarter pole before fading. Race favourite Solid Gold N kicked off cover late, but it was Goldberg who got clearance in the lane and used a :26.4 final frame to win by a head over pacesetting Bo Mach in 1:50.1. Solid Gold N was a length behind in third.
