Raritan Bay closed to win the $20,000 Male Claiming pace while 23-1 longshot Foxland surprised in the $15,000 claimer on a Spring-like Tuesday, March 11 at Dover Downs.
Bret Brittingham came home through a wing of horses with Raritan Bay en route to a 1:52.1 victory in the top claiming race on the card. The win was the second in his last three starts for the Red River Hanover-Jackie Who gelding trained by his dad Don, and owned by his mother, Betty Brittingham. Cash Cab (Corey Callahan) won the photo for second with Polaris N (Ross Wolfenden) third.
One race later, Daryl Bier and 23-1 shot Foxland were seventh, on the move outside, as the field passed the three-quarters. Foxland then raced three, then four wide entering the stretch and bypassed seven rivals on the way to a 1:53 success in a $15,000 Male Claiming Allowance.
Overlooked in the field after winning two starts back and being in-the-money in four of his first four starts this year, the Badlands Hanover-Fox Valley Hooker gelding paid $48.60 to win. Ideal Vintage (Callahan) was runner-up with A Bettor World (Eddie Davis Jr.) the show horse.
George Dennis and Allan Davis led all drivers with three wins; Bret Brittingham and Ross Wolfenden added two winners each.
Baximum, Can Do and Struttin Conway lead eight to post in the Wednesday feature $20,000 Open Handicap trot.
