After three consecutive losses including a heartbreaker in last week’s $34,000 Preferred Trot, Frenchfrysnvinegar returned to Woodbine Racetrack and wired up her square-gaited foes in Monday’s feature race.
Jody Jamieson wasted no time hustling Frenchfrysnvinegar to early command from Post 6 and the two-time O’Brien Award-winning mare successfully sliced out splits of :27.1, :57.2 and 1:26.2 before using a :29.2 final frame to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Watkins in 1:55.4. Burnin Money rallied from last to get third in his first start at the Preferred class.
Sent off as the 9-5 favourite, Frenchfrysnvinegar improved her 2013 record to 2-1-0 in six starts for trainer Jeff Gillis and owner/breeder David Smith of Rockwood, ON. The eight-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Gugus is a 32-time winner who has stashed away career earnings totaling $1,092,927.
