Heavy favourite Phone Terror brushed to command down the backstretch and charged straight to victory lane in Sunday afternoon's $20,000 Muriel Fornwald Memorial Stake at Fraser Downs
. The event was for three and four-year-old B.C. owned, bred or sired fillies and mares that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime by the first of this year.
Fresh off a victory in her seasonal debut during last weekend's elimination round, Phone Terror and trainer-driver Serge Masse settled back into sixth place after a Post 8 start. Meanwhile, Theregoesmyheart (Rod Therres) fired to her inside and took command over Strange Desire (Brad Watt).
Theregoesmyheart led the way through a moderate opening quarter of :28.4 and reached the half in :58.2 with Phone Terror advancing down the backside and Strange Desire tipping out to pick up her cover.
Phone Terror brushed by the early leader before the 1:26.4 three-quarters pole and was game right to the wire for the 1:56.3 career-best equalling score by one and a half lengths. The Western Terror-Miss Lex miss was followed by Theregoesmyheart while the other elimination winner, Panic At The Disco (Jim Marino), finished five lengths back in third. Strange Desire and Yarhos (Darren Howald) earned the final paycheques.
Phone Terror paid $3.80 to win as the 4-5 bettors' choice. The lightly raced sophomore filly, now two-for-two this year, boosted her bankroll to $29,325 for local owner Lucy Raymond. She has won six times in her eight-race career while finishing second in her other two starts.
