Female pacers strutted their stuff at the Meadowlands on Thursday evening as the New Jersey oval featured the opening leg of the Night Styles Series
Catawba held on to win by a nose in the opening division for the tandem of driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Delvy Lopez. The four-year-old daughter of Four Starzzz Shark took over command shortly past the quarter pole and led for the remainder of the mile en route to pulling off the nose decision over Winsmith Jen in 1:54.4. Odds On Adventure rounded out the top three.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, Catawba improved her 2010 record to 2-1-1 in seven starts with the win. The career winner of $51,987 is owned by Triple P Stables LLC of Red Bank, New Jersey.
Fresh off her 1:54.1 score in last Friday’s $61,000 final of the Tender Loving Care Series, Odds On Moinet rallied to a 1:53 triumph for driver George Brennan and trainer Robin Schadt. It was a career-best clocking for the three-year-old daughter of Real Artist, who defeated race favourite Mid Western Jatelo and I Cant Stoplovinu.
It was the third win of the season in four trips postward for Odds On Moinet, who pulled off the 5-1 mild upset for Odds On Racing of Crete, Illinois. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her career bankroll to $60,039.
The second leg of the Night Styles Series goes next Thursday evening at the Meadowlands, with the $72,400 (est.) final to go on Thursday, March 25.
