The winning streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for Penzance Hanover thanks to his Thursday triumph in the $32,500 Open Preferred Handicap at Dover Downs.
Penzance Hanover was parked alongside Rose Run Uriah at the quarter pole in :26.1, but he worked his way to the top and carved out middle splits of :54.2 and 1:22.1. He then used a :27.4 closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over Movin On Up in 1:50. Rose Run Uriah was third.
The eight-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Platinum Hanover, who was sent off as the 7-5 favourite, improved this year’s record to 5-3-0 from 10 attempts for owner/trainer/driver Art Stafford, Jr. while potting the 28th win of his career. He’s racked up over $400,000 in career earnings.
