Flames illuminated the dark early-morning skies today at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds, a facility in Maine which hosts live cards of harness racing.

According to a report by The Forecaster, the local fire department received notice of a blaze at 5:00 a.m. The article states that crews from Falmouth and Yarmouth assisted in putting out the fire.

The fire was reportedly contained to a blacksmith barn which was being rented by Arthur Davignon, who was unavailable for comment.

The article cites Fire Chief Dan Small as saying that responding fire crews were able to knock the barn down within 10 to 15 minutes.

The article states that no people or animals were injured.

“The crews did a great job of protecting those other buildings,” Small was quoted as saying.
