Ginger Tree Skyr won the Winners Over/Select Trot on Tuesday night (March 1) at Dover Downs.
Driver Corey Callahan and Ginger Tree Skyr waited for the early speed from Swansea to clear for the lead at the quarter. Callahan confidently retook the lead in front of the stands with Ginger Tree Skyr and controlled the race fractions. Ginger Tree Skyr, the 9/5 favourite, set race fractions of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:24.4.
Steuben Hanover trotted willingly first over and challenged Ginger Tree Skyr at the three-quarter marker but failed in his bid. Ginger Tree Skyr remained stubborn in the stretch and drew off to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:54. He paid $5.60 for the win.
Ginger Tree Skyr is owned by Nick Callahan, Yorwollahan Racing Team and G. Godbout, all from Delaware. Nick Callahan trains the son of Explosive Matter.
Steuben Hanover was second for trainer Dylan Davis. Arthur Stafford Jr. drove. Spee Club was third for trainer D. Erin Neilson. Montrell Teague drove.
Russell Foster won three races on the betting card.
The $25,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace features Shes Pukka N, Soho Burning Love A, Major Occasion A, and last week’s upsetter at 20-1, Disturbed Hanover. The race will be the 12th race on Wednesday night (March 2).
