Expected to make an appearance to defend his title in the Camluck Classic, Canadian record holder Rockin Ron made his 2019 debut on Friday (March 1).
The seven-year-old son of Real Desire - Im All A Roan had a three-month vacation before returning to work with a qualifying mile at The Meadowlands. Driver Yannick Gingras had Rockin Ron aimed for the front through a :29 opening panel, cleared and then handled all the fractions from there. Pacing his middle half in :57.2, Rockin Ron sprinted home in :27 to trip the timer in 1:53.2, a half-length ahead of pocket-sitting Rodeo Romeo (Dexter Dunn).
The fastest older pacer in Canadian harness racing history on a half-mile track by virtue of his 1:50.1 miles in the 2016 Confederation Cup and the 2018 Camluck Classic, Rockin Ron is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, RTC Stables Inc., and J And T Silva Stables LLC. All signs point to Rockin Ron to make an appearance at Yonkers Raceway for the upcoming George Morton Levy Memorial Series, set to kick off on Saturday, March 16.
