There was no stopping Matt Kakaley on Thursday at Dover Downs, as the young reinsman made six trips to victory lane over the course of the 15-race program
Kakaley watched fellow sulky-sitter Victory Kirby sweep the Daily Double before finding the winner’s circle in Race 3 with Northern Ideal (1:55.3). He came right back to take Race 4 with Rockamabella (1:58), and proceeded to complete the hat trick with Out Of My Pocket (1:54.3) in Race 6.
Jabez (1:57.1) was a front-stepping winner for Kakaley in Race 7, and Yep (1:54.3) used the same approach en route to a winning effort in Race 8. The sixth and final winner for Kakaley came in Race 14 when Commando K (1:57) roared away to win by more than three lengths.
Recently inducted into the 2,000-win club, Kakaley pushed this year’s win total to 73 while his lifetime total climbed to 2,029.
