When you think of some of the most influential figures in Canadian sport, who comes to mind? Don Cherry? Gary Bettman? Steve Nash? How about Nick Eaves?

On Monday, February 6, The Globe and Mail released its 'Power 50 List,' which ranks Canadians that have 'the influence, and the desire, to affect sport in Canada during 2012.'

Woodbine Entertainment Group President and CEO Nick Eaves has cracked the list at No. 37. National Hockey League Players Association Executive Director Donald Fehr has topped the list, followed by National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman and a collective of concussion experts.

The Globe and Mail article has offered a bit of an explanation regarding how the Top 50 came to be. It states that Globe and Mail sportswriters across the country nominate people within their coverage regions and fields of expertise; and that senior staff writer James Christie assembled an initial list of more than 100 names, which was reduced to 50 by a committee of five individuals.

WEG operates both Woodbine and Mohawk Racetracks, as well as HorsePlayer Interactive, HPItv, Champions Off-Track Wagering, the Turf Lounge and WEGZ Stadium Bar.
