The striking Misty Moonstone delivered as the bettor's choice in the featured $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on a favourite-filled Wednesday at Western Fair

Raceway.

Leaving from the inside post position, the ninth race even-money favourite, Misty Moonstone, yielded to early leaver Hi Maintenancechic and played follow the leader through fractions of :29, :59.1, and 1:28.2 before surging by in the final strides. The five-year-old roan mare won by half a length in 1:58 flat. Hi Maintenancechic was second, followed by Rev Me Up one and a half lengths back.

The Astreos-Access Hollywood mare, who is now two-for-six on the year, is driven and trained by Peter Core for owners Donald and Heather McGregor of Camlachie, Ont. The victory was her 19th lifetime and pushed her bankroll to $293,847.

Misty Moonstone was one of 10 favourites to score wins on Wednesday's 12-race card. Driver Trevor Henry reined home half of the popular winners. Western Fair's leading sulky-sitter scored a natural hat trick to open the card with Cosmic Jolt ($2.10) for trainer Dan Creighton, Ayatollaofroknrola ($3.10) for Wayne Preszcator, and Windsong Harley ($4.40) for Bud Sinclair. Henry later returned to victory lane with the Creighton-trained Fashion Fun ($3.90) in the seventh race and Starlitestarbrite ($4.10) for Shannon Henry in the 10th race.
