According to a report, Maine's governor, John Baldacci, has said that he will veto any bill that looks to expand gambling within the state unless the people of Maine want it
.
An article on the Maine Public Broadcasting Network website quoted Baldacci as saying, "What you have now in Bangor was voted on by the people of Bangor and was voted on by the people of Maine. The percentages, all of this, was part of a referendum. Any changes to the way that it operates, especially in this particular area, need to be approved by the people."
Officials at Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway recently announced that they want lawmakers to authorize table games for the racino in Bangor.
