Horseman Stephen Trites sheds some light on all that goes into preparing standardbreds for their few minutes in the spotlight on race night in
an article in this weekend's The Daily Gleaner.
Trites touches on the long hours, basic horse care and race strategy.
"You have to be able to get along with the horse. And a horse that doesn't want to go, sometimes you have to make them go, without hurting them or discouraging them," said Trites in the article. "You want to make the horse think they want to win too."
