With a perfect record in 2009, and six consecutive victories racked up going back to December, Afternoon Dreams has emerged as one of the stars
of Benoit Baillargeon’s barn.
The four-year-old daughter of Dream Vacation has proven she can take on the boys, too, sweeping both of her preliminary divisions of the Don Mills Trotting Series and setting a new lifetime mark of 1:55.1 in the process.
Does she have what it takes to capture the $61,000 final, and the series, and make it seven-in-a-row on Monday, February 9?
Afternoon Dreams will go postward as part of a double entry with Azur, a Self-Possessed colt part-owned by Sylvia Burke and by Indiana trainer, Verlin Yoder. In the first and second legs of the Don Mills, Azur turned in a fifth-place performance and a second. He’ll have a new pilot in Rick Zeron on Monday.
If anyone can challenge Afternoon Dreams, it might be Sand Wyndham, a recent addition to Ben Wallace’s string who, like the filly, is looking for a series sweep. They’ll go head-to-head for the first time in the Don Mills final, leaving from Posts 6 and 7, while Afternoon Dreams’ shedrow sister, Ocean Mist Dynasty, will leave from Post 1.
It promises to be an exciting contest, and the highlight of the Monday night card at Woodbine. The Don Mills final is Race 4, and that means it will be part of this week’s Race Night on The Score program which airs from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
