Tilikum Tops London Preferred

Tipping off cover, Tilikum took charge into the stretch, winning the $10,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Western Fair Raceway on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in 1:58.4.

Sent the favourite, Tilikum was positioned fifth as Katies Beach left for the lead from the rail, going a :29.3 first quarter and a 1:00.2 half before undergoing pressure. Bad Night Mare pulled first over, tracked by Tilikum entering the backstretch, and stalled heading to three-quarters, forcing Tilikum wide as Katies Beach remained in front in 1:29.4.

Tilikum led by a half-length into the stretch over Thewayulooktonight, rallying from third over, and extended her lead to two lengths at the line. Thewayulooktonight grabbed second, and Howmacfiesty swept from last to take third.

A six-year-old mare by Jeremes Jet out of the Bettors Delight mare Alice Emily, Tilikum, winning her 16th race in 82 starts, has earned $107,738. Owned by trainer Tiffanee Staley and driver Denis St. Pierre, she paid $6.00 to win.

War Filly wired the field as the favourite in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace, winning in 1:59.1.

Securing the top through a :30.2 opening quarter, War Filly underwent first-over pressure from Maddys Credit through the half and three-quarters, timed in 1:00.2 and 1:29.2 respectively, before kicking to a two-length lead into the stretch. With the outside flow retreating, War Filly led rail-rider Maxim Seelster by two-lengths at the line, with pocket-sitter Casino Classic holding third.

Owned by trainer John Powell and Bradley Powell, War Filly, a six-year-old mare by Mach Three out of the Survivor Gold mare Elite Avatar, won her 16th race in 111, earning $147,620. Driven by Colin Kelly, she paid $5.30 to win.
