Favourite For The Ladies N (Brian Sears, $2.80) was both patient and potent, handily winning Yonkers Raceway’s $35,000 featured Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
Making her stateside small-track debut, For The Ladies N won the draw but had no designs about flaunting it. She was more than happy to get away third, behind Handsoffmycookie (Dan Dube) and Mach A Wish (Mark MacDonald). After a :27.4 opening quarter-mile and :56.4 intermission, the people’s preference made her move.
She edged to the lead passing the 1:24.4 three-quarters, widening to two and a half lengths into the lane. For The Ladies N never had an issue for the balance, winning by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:52.4. Handsoffmycookie chased and held second, with Momma Rock (Jason Bartlett), Mach A Wish and Sir Jillian Z Tam completing the cashers.
For The Ladies N is a six-year-old Down Under daughter of Jeremes Jet trained by Peter Tritton for owner Harry von Knoblauch. The win was her second in four seasonal starts. The exacta paid $15.20, with the triple returning $66.
