After a startling self-imposed exile from harness racing at the end of 2005 that saw him return to Australia, trainer Brett Pelling will return to the United States

next week after being served to give evidence during the trial of David Brooks.

Pelling, who trained such standouts as Western Terror and Timesareachanging for David Brooks' Perfect World Enterprises, may even resume training upon his return.

“If they allow gaming at the Meadowlands, I’m on the first plane back there,” he told Adam Hamilton for harnessracing.com. “To me the Meadowlands is the backbone of harness racing in the States. It’s what it’s all about – the big show. It can’t be duplicated. Can you imagine racing in the US without the Meadowlands?”

Fighting off an urge to train while downunder, Pelling's hunger is reportedly back and fueled by a trip to New Jersey and the Hambletonian last August.

“I had a magic week with some great people. It really sparked things for me,” said Pelling. “I had 26 years in the States from when I was 19, so my way of thinking is pretty American. I’ve met some people from past in recent times and I’ve found myself asking what I’m doing. I miss the camaraderie and the routine of the system with harness racing in the States.”

Further to your article above, did the "self imposed exile" have anything to do with the fact that Mr. Pelling seemed to leave the US at a time when it appeared that there were problems with DHB Industries (Mr. Brook's public company which was undergoing an SEC investigation at the time)? Let's be fair, maybe we will find out more about Mr. Pelling's dealings after he testifies and is cross examined.
